    Default Fallout 3 Save Editor 1.3.1

    Fallout 3 Save Editor Version 1.0

    Unzip to a directory and double click fo3edit.bat, required jre 1.5 or higher.

    Features:

    show/edit experience
    list/edit inventory items
    form id to save id lookups
    dump inventory item flags
    lists file offset for all data.

    1.1 and 1.2 are on subsequent pages in this thread.

    1.3

    - The application now extracts the save file from the XBox container. Addresses displayed by the application are now relative to the savegame.dat file, not the FXS file. This fixes issues related to hash blocks being in the middle of data, such as the form identifier table.

    - Supports databases for DLC. Thanks to Turk for provided the database files. The user needs to edit database.properties with notepad to map module ids to database files.

    - Fixed a few bugs with inventory loading and experience loading (evil's save had a 7C in the middle of his experience field...not good as this is what i use as a field marker).

    - New command: fsearch <description> - scans the database for form ids by description, so you can lookup items by description. Command provides form id, save id, and whether the item is in the form id table (so you know if you need to swap it in).

    - New command: save - as a result of extracting the save file from the container, changes to the save game must be commited using the save command.

    - Fixed command: setxp <xp> - now lets you set XP up to level 30.

    I am working on a GUI, slowly, I don't have a lot of time to work on this right now, but I will do what I can.

    1.3.1 patch:
    Temporary fix for stoned zombie's save issue.
    Includes logging dependencies for better logging and logging for the GUI.

    Problem:
    Attempting to run Complicators Save Editor 1.3.x in a folder location other than Desktop, the result is a quick CMD black box and shutdown.

    Cause: The Java executable is not in the system PATH. Verify by opening a command box, and typing JAVA. If an error message returns then java is not in system path.

    Solution (Vista x64): Find the Java executable located here
    [spoiler:26jkgs1w]C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin[/spoiler:26jkgs1w]
    and paste it to C:\Windows\system32\

    (Do not cut/paste/move Java.exe).

    Again, sorry if this was posted before - about every word I tried in Search gave me a "word too common" error.
    Hope this helps some folks out there.

    Right click one the .bat file and click "edit" it should open in notepad and show something like this:

    @java -Dlog4j.configuration=file:./log4j.xml -jar fo3edit.jar
    you want to replace it with:

    @java -Dlog4j.configuration=file:./log4j.xml -Xms128M -Xmx512M -jar fo3edit.jar
    It should work then.

    You will probably have to edit the mod index order on the "database.properties" file though.

    The "fo3edit.bat" is also edited so it should work with larger file sizes.

    Say your database.properties file looks like this

    05=anchorage.tsv
    04=thepitt.tsv
    06=bs.tsv
    03=pl.tsv
    02=mz.tsv

    If you're getting an unknown with MZ items then "02" is wrong, just replace "02" with whatever number the unknown has. However if you're getting a lot of unknowns with -1 in place of quantity then you need to make a new save before editing anything.

    lol I don't even get that much. :lol:

    I double click the icon, it closes out the folder and dumps me back to the desktop without so much as an error message.

    Story of my life lol.

    Oh well I'll have to figure it out tomorrow. Gotta get some sleep. Thanks for making this Complicator! Once I get it working I'm sure it will be awesome! :)

    Do you have a Java Virtual Machine installed and in the system path?

    If its running you should see:

    Fallout 3 Save Editor
    Version 1.0 Alpha By Complicator

    USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. BACKUP YOUR SAVE GAME

    >

    Type help for the commands, if you don't see this you don't have a JVM installed or java.exe in not in the path.

    Start -> Run -> CMD.EXE then type java, if you get a big list of crap then its in the path.

    To see if it drops errors go to the command prompt (CMD.EXE) change into the directory you put the files in and use the batch file or type java -jar fo3edit.jar and copy what it says to a post.

    My problem had to do with my Anti-Virus Software, Once I turned that off I had no problem getting your app to work. I only tested out adding XP and it worked like a charm. I'll mess around with it some more tomorrow.

    Wow. This is impressive as hell.

    Edit: Possible source(s) for complete FORMID table
    [spoiler:3km8kf3e]I ran into this via google:
    http://www.gamevicio.com.br/projetos/fall3/eng/names/names(1).txt
    Perhaps this is the output/dump of a GECK tool? Not sure, the site is in Spanish (but these pages are in English).

    [s]AFAICT, the data is split into 29 pages, per the following format
    http://www.gamevicio.com.br/projetos/fall3/eng/names/names([1..29]).txt

    Eg,
    http://www.gamevicio.com.br/projetos/fall3/eng/names/names(1).txt
    thru
    http://www.gamevicio.com.br/projetos/fall3/eng/names/names(29).txt

    I&#39;ll see if I can find a quick minute to run a script later today, concatenate the 29 text files, zip it up and post it here, but those are the pages (in case I don&#39;t get to it today). Hope that helps.
    [/s]

    EDIT: Never mind, it took less time than I thought. See attached zipfile.

    Not sure if there are other databases/lists besides this "names" one -- probably a GECK owner would know. Eh, gotta run.[/spoiler:3km8kf3e]

    I haven't actually checked any modded files to see if they work on my Xbox quite yet -- because, despite your excellent tool working "out of the box" (with no modification/emulation at all) in Linux, [spoiler:3km8kf3e]most of the resigners, rehashers, Modio, and for that matter, Xplorer360, all seem to prefer/require an i32/Windows environment. I&#39;m working on a couple of other things at the moment, so I guess I&#39;ll wait until I can find a good stopping point, drop out of Ubuntu, and begrudgingly boot back into XP...[/spoiler:3km8kf3e]

    However, for a CLI, so far this thing is intuitive as hell. [spoiler:3km8kf3e](Well, okay, I admit my first instinct was to type "?" at the command prompt -- but my second instinct was to type "help," and that worked like a charm!)[/spoiler:3km8kf3e]
    I was originally concerned that this was going to be just another "black box" tool without a README file that no one but the author knew how to use -- but in actuality, I was really impressed with the amount of usage/syntax info provided. Documented in a simple but fairly comprehensive fashion -- compared to your average 1.0 release command-line tool, or hell, compared with plenty of other GUI Xbox 360 mod tools, this really is a great thing you've got here sir. :)

    Your original post suggests you'd be fine with someone else writing a GUI interface for the tool. I might be interested in helping out with that -- or (if other people have the same idea) I'd be happy to collaborate...[spoiler:3km8kf3e]with others if there&#39;s going to be a "group effort" at some point...

    Maybe we can write the interface in Java or Python (or Gtk/Mono/C#, or whatever) so the GUI could be cross-platform as well... It would certainly be nice to see more tools start to move in this direction...[/spoiler:3km8kf3e]

    OH, but I digress --

    Great tool, man. I'm looking forward to seeing the next version (with the changes you mentioned, above), and if you want/need a hand at some point, please just say so. (I don't have the GECK, so I can't help there -- but keep posting requests and we're bound to find some good stuff to help you out.)

    And if anyone wants to get together on the whole GUI idea, just say something -- or post/PM, yeah, that would probably reach more people...

    If we run across bugs as we're playing with the tool, should we PM them to you or post them here? I'm assuming it's the latter, so you don't get a deluge of PMs regarding the same bug...hopefully here people will only list stuff if it hasn't been mentioned yet...(yeah right)

    Anyway, I found a tiny, insignificant bug that I figured I'd mention -- and I'll edit this post later if I run across anything else, unless you'd prefer that we sit down and STFU, which I can totally understand also. :)

    [spoiler:2z8zdm1f]
    • Minor logic flaw: showitem() does not recognize Zero as a valid integer (where 0 <= integer <= inventoryMax)
      Not a major issue by any means -- but since you&#39;re planning to release a new version anyway, it might be worth correcting. See snippet below; Showitem() works fine for integers [1-11] (where 11 is the last/max InvIndex, and 0 is the first), but 0 is not recognized as valid.

      [scrollbox:2z8zdm1f]> showitem 0 ## not happy with zero
      Inventory index must be an integer between 0 and 11
      > showitem 11 ## however, upper boundary is fine
      # ADDRESS SID FID QUANTITY DESC
      11 00075859 001C15 0002E0B4 1 Overseer&#39;s Office Key
      ADDRESS LENGTH DATA
      0x00075859 4 7C001C15
      0x0007585D 5 7C01000000
      0x00075862 2 7C00
      [/scrollbox:2z8zdm1f]

      BTW, this is using "Archaic&#39;s FUN SAVE v2.2" from the download area.
      [/*:m:2z8zdm1f]
    [/spoiler:2z8zdm1f]

    I hope this comes across as "helpful" (which is my intent) and not "nitpicky" or whatever. I'd hate to have to go jump off a building, per the OP! :)

    I have a 7 meg text file of what should be every ID in Fallout without the DLC. From the format I think it could easily be imported into Excel for a neat presentation or ordering.

    :P Also don't be suprised if i end up PMing you at some point about your algorithms. Once I learn some more VB I might be hitting you up.
